Born and raised in New York City, Bill Crimi has produced his art there, as well as in Delaware. Presently, Bill Crimi creates from his art studio in Reading, Berks County Pennslyvania. A genre for the artist is difficult to establish, due to the wide diversity of his work. Bill explores in style and medium according to changing, creative impulses that develope. Enjoying a somewhat, free, and open style, Bill feels un-taxed by the orating restraints of self-celebrated critics. Though he does not consciously create to the whim of trend or fad, his work may at times lean in that direction.
Artworks by Bill Crimi, exist in private collections throughout New York. Clients have also purchased his work in Delaware, with the painting 'Sunday Best' (36x30 oil on linen) purchased by a private collector in Munich Germany. Sunday Best, depicts two small African American girls strolling along a deserted, Sunday morning, inner city street on thier way to church. They are holding hands and the smaller of the girls is being distracted by a cat, poking in an open trash can. Bill enjoys his "International Acclaim Fame" with an amused smile yet, it is evident that he attaches a sincere warmth to all who have purchased his work. The hectic day to day pace of NYC, led the artist to relocate to a more serene environment in 1994. It was in Wilmington Delaware that he resumed painting after a long hiatus. It was the winter of 1995 when two back-to-back snow storms left him snow-bound at home that Bill dug through some boxes to recover old tubes of paints and brushes. Not long before, a friend had given him two long forgotten canvases after hearing him lament that, he missed painting. The result was, a creation of thirty paintings by the year end. Shortly thereafter, Bill Crimi relocated to an artists loft in Wilmington where he continued to create, opening a 'Junktique' and Art Gallery on West Street which, operated untill the building was sold to individuals who did not share the same values. Some members of the City Planning Dept., familiar with the artist and eager to keep Wilmington on a progressive path, away from its decaying, down-trodden, crime riddled past, helped the artist link up with a local developer. Bill re-organized on 7th Street, between Orange and Tatnall. After enduring two more years of Wilmingtons besieged streets, it became apparant that the City would not impliment the control needed in order to effect positive change on a wide enough scale...the artist moved on.
